    That Soprano Sound

It isn't all that free. My friend is sticking to a set of chords and I am in a set key. We didn't discuss what exactly those chords were though. It is also pretty rhythmic. Here is a solo piece of Joanna Newsom's Cassiopeia: http://www.macjams.com/song/44745

    Soprano setups

All this talk about our sound makes me curious of the setups the other members are using. Here is mine: Selmer Super Action 80 Series II Selmer S-80 C* Vandoren Traditional 2 1/2 Bois Ligatures (I'll soon post my soprano recording)

    That Soprano Sound

You should post it anyway. It can't be that bad. What is the worst that can happen? Hey Ed, it is a work in progress. Soprano is one of the more difficult saxophones, but I feel it is really worth the hardship and effort.

    That Soprano Sound

    That is the best idea.

    That Soprano Sound

I am all for that. The saxophonist on my avatar is Bruce Ackley, who is a member of the "avant garde" group the ROVA Saxophone Quartet. Perhaps we should do some Steve Lacy instead?

    That Soprano Sound

I am glad I am given the first opportunity to screw up some fine Monk tunes. I'll seriously do Reflections though.

Welcome Tammi, I am new here as well and enjoying it very much.
  13. TheHearing

    That Soprano Sound

We should do the following Thelonious Monk tunes: Four In One Trinkle Trinkle Work Reflections (Just to make things more romantic, sexy, or something along those lines)

    That Soprano Sound

We should exchange sounds for a week and see where it takes us!

    That Soprano Sound

All I was saying is that sounding like an oboe shouldn't be perceived as a bad thing. I am a big fan of the timbre of an oboe. I am quite happy about my sound on the soprano; I am just saying it would be interesting if I achieved an oboe like sound. I love the saxophone and hope to...

    That Soprano Sound

Hmm... If I could achieve a sound reminiscent of an oboe I'd be surprised and probably pretty happy about it.

Rotate them or play it until it dies?

I play it until it dies.

S-80 Mouthpieces, is it just me...

I agree. I am currently using a C* for my soprano and I am actually satisfied with my sound. Though I am still considering other options...

The player isn't me. It is Bruce Ackley of the ROVA Saxophone Quartet. I think he plays a Selmer Super Action 80. I could always ask him if you are interested.
