Doubling par excellence

I had the pleasure of going to San Juan Capistrano, CA last Sunday, at the Mission that was founded in 1867 and remains the only such mission in Orange County, CA, - enough CA history - to see and hear Pat Longo's big band (http://www.patlongobigband.com/) play for an Italian festival.

The point of sharing this here is that the sax section, three out of five of whom I know personally, including Pat, demonstrated excellent doubling skills on clarinet and flute throughout the performance. The jazz chair tenor player, Steve Karr provided excellent solos on both clarinet and flute, as did Adrian Tapia and Thom Mason (http://www.masonmusic.com/home.html).

I was sitting with Bill Tosh, retired Marine bandmaster who is an awesome flute player in his on right and owns seven flutes including Haynes and a couple of Powells. I'm trying to get him to lay some lessons on me.
