I was wondering when someone was going to bring this up. While I'm not a big fan of his more-recent work, the time that he spent with "the world's greatest bar band" (Louis Prima, Keeley Smith, Sam Butera, some guy in a pork pie hat on trombone, and a rhythm section) was golden.
We do a lot of Louis Prima tunes, with "Just A Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody", "Buona Sera", "Angelina" and "Jump, Jive and Wail!" being at the top of the list. It's very "straight ahead" stuff, with raucous tenor playing and similar trombone work, and any of them always "perk up" a room, no matter what the mood.
