Tip of the Hat to Rob Verdi

I had the opportunity to hear Rob Verdi perform with the Mountainview High School Band and Jazz Ensemble last night in Orem Utah. Rob played his Conn O Sax, his curved sopranino, his contra bass sax, his slide sax, as well as the more traditional tenor and alto. Rob is not only an accomplished player, he is also a great entertainer and music educator as well. Rob has one of the most extensive (and expensive) saxophone collections in the world and chooses to drive to all of his gigs in order to better care for his instruments. Rob also turned me on to the beautiful music of Ennio Morricone through his performance of "Gabriel's Oboe" on the Conn O Sax which is essentially a straight alto pitched in F. If anyone gets the opportunity to see and hear Rob perform, it is well worth it IMO.

I have at least one CD of Rob Verdi doing wonderful things - with a variety of horns - and can only second your tip of the hat. Quite a musician!!
