year of fabrication of a selmer paris

dear all, could anyone tell me the year of frabication of a selmer paris clarinet please ? the serial number of M9304, I checked the serial number listed on the website(http://www.clarinetperfection.com/clsnSelmerParis.htm), but the serial number is M8000, there are no M9XXX. Is this a professional level clarinet or a intermediaire one?
Another question, I have henri dubois metal one piece clarinet, are there anyone know the year of fabrication and the quality of this clarinet? professional, medium or beginner? Thanks a lot

1946 would be my guess.

You will see other years that skip numbers and those skipped numbers are assumed to be within a timeframe or year, in yours 1946.

All Selmer Paris clarinets were/are considered pro quality. They were designed and built back then as a pro instrument. They are still considered a pro instrument though some modern standards for intermediates may eclipse the vintage pro models.

as to your metal clarinet there is a site on the internet (you'll have to search) that will/may have more information on it.

But just taking a guess since it's not one of the big known metal clarinet names that it is either a student or intermediate model.

http://silver-clarinet.com/ is the premium metal clarinet resource. 98% of all metal clarinets are junk unfortunately but the Silver clarinet site provides a complete set of recommended instruments.
While I've heard this statement, too, I submit that even the low-end Pan American metal "skeleton" clarinet I had wasn't bad. Yes, probably not as good as a silver-plated horn (or a King with the sterling bell), but it had a very nice, sweet tone -- especially when I used a decent mouthpiece with it.
