I was looking a wood recorders and although my plastic recorder is probably enough for me I found myself Jonesing for a Mollenhauer Recorder (http://www.mollenhauer.com/html/ENGLISH/Startup_E.htm). This is a very nice site if you want to do more reading.

If you think you'll be playing them part time and want something you can pick up and sound good on quickly, get the Yamaha 300 series plastic recorders. I use those from soprano down to bass, and like the sound and response from all of them.
The only exception is the sopranino. I use an Aulos 500 (?) series instrument, as the sound is far superior to Yamaha's 300 'nino.

I own the soprano, alto, tenor, and bass recorder in the 200 series by Aulos. They are fun to play with but I'd never get paid to play them.

The sopranino I was recommending is the Aulos #507.
The 200 series instruments are pretty low level - you'll be amazed how much better the 500 Aulos recorders or the 300 series Yamahas sound.

That might explain my voicing problem/challenges.
