Who's from where?
We have a few folks here, particularly that hide out in the flute, clarinet and double-reed areas, that are not from SOTW (for those who don't know, that's "Sax-on-the-Web" or http://www.saxontheweb.net), but the majority of folks here are.
FWIW, I had the "saxpics" name before I joined SOTW, because of my former websitage, www.saxpics.com. I changed to "pete" when I sold my website.

I'm Toobz on SOTW. I switched it mainly beause I'm sick and tired of that username. I've used Toobz or some variation of that name on the web for over 15 years. Also, I get at least one comment or question regarding the origin of "Toobz" every year. The question usually refers to a particular part of a womans uPPer anatomy. But it's actually a reference to my older hobby of collecting old radios and hi-fi. That's also why I changed my avatar on SOTW to show a image of a vacuum tube, so hopefully people will get the reference more readily.
By the way, that 10M in my avatar is mine. And Connical is a reference to my Conn and conical tubing which is used in Cornet and Trumpet design. Which are my other passions.
UPDATE ! Thanks to Mike (saxismyaxe), I am no longer "Toobz" at SOTW. I am now " Connical " there as well !

Ok, I'm back from a couple month LOA.
I'm MD on SOTW as well, and IIRC, every forum I've visited in the past 10 years except 2.
I'm "The Plague" on a computer forum I went to once (I know a couple of you will get it... there were plenty over there who didn't and I almost got band with my "welcome"), and DeadEye on a forum for a gaming center. "DeadEye" is a better sniper name (my usual profession in games... skill/loner thing, I guess).
Hey Toobz... are you on Head-Fi or Head-Case? If you dig tubes for audio, you need to be there ('specially the 'Case. I see parallels between SOTW/WWF and HF/HC... in a good way).

Rory,
I've heard from a couple of people that SOTW has had some issues with Firefox or at least a couple of users have reported that they had a problem with Firefox and SOTW.
If Pete Thomas says you aren't banned then I suspect you may have some computer issue. I'm sure that if you did something wrong that someone would make you aware of it. The admin team at SOTW works hard to make sure that they inform people of these sorts of issues.

Ed you are one halcyon dude.
Nothing wrong with my computer. I may just be too much of a Republican--in the best Miltonic sense of that very fine word--for SotW a la mode.
That and the fact that I'm seeing something going on that other folks just don't want to.
And...I found out I need a root canal today. Not the best day I've ever had.
Now I'm going to go watch some Canadian butt get kicked in some sport I've never played.
Peace,
Rory
Ed Svoboda
08-12-2008, 07:47 AM
I didn't know it was possible for a Canadian to be a Republican. At least it wasn't when I took Anglo-American politics. I've always liked that our friends to the north 1) have a great national anthem that almost everyone can sing, 2) gave us bands like Rush, and 3) have lots of water. The water thing might come in handy.
Now I'm going to go watch some Canadian butt get kicked in some sport I've never played.
I think y'all kick butt in curling.
The sport, that is. Not *necessarily* what you do to your hair.
==========
More on the topic that you mention (not sports, but SOTW problems),
The best possible advice I can give anyone that's having any kind of problem with SOTW is to contact their staff, as seen on the SOTW Staff page (http://forum.saxontheweb.net/showthread.php?t=75110) -- they don't have specific e-mails listed, but you can always go to one of their websites and then ask (or look for the member here -- a lot of SOTW staff are members here -- and use our Private Messaging feature).
Or contact Harri directly at admin@saxontheweb.net.
-> While I don't mind too much that people discuss SOTW problems here, we're not affiliated with SOTW and can't help you. <-
I'm a also little concerned that people will turn this particular thread into an SOTW-bashing thread. That's not wanted. HOWEVER, if you have seen something that you didn't like on SOTW or any other forum and you're concerned about that happening over here, you can certainly talk with Ed, Jim, me (thesaxinfo@gmail.com) or any of our wonderful CEs. Or, if it's a suggestion on how to run the WF or a new feature FOR the WF, please post in the Suggestion Box (http://www.woodwindforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=209).

Woohoo !! We're up to -8!!!!!!
My car didn't like the temps yesterday and blew oil all over everything, so count me out on the road trip.
Yah. It's chilly, here. Must be at least 60.
:P
(FWIW, I lived in Buffalo, NY for almost 20 years and in Plattsburgh, NY for 1. I did my time.)

Sunday night I spent 3 hours removing snow. Corner lot, triple wide driveway and 4 feet of snow off of the garage roof - At least is was a balmy 2 degrees outside.
It is -11 and falling right now. I expect it to be around -20 by the time I am able to get out and remove the snow from today.

Warning... Hell is going to freeze over in Arizona this Sunday. The Eagles are Super Bowl bound.

We probably hit -20 here and it's the coldest I remember it being in 35 years. Apparently we did not set a record low.

I remember being in Chicago over Christmas with my cellist ex. We took the train to Chicago, and then down to Kansas. There was a six hour layover, so we walked over to the Art Institute from Union Station.
It was so cold that the few minutes her cello was outside was enough to snap the C string. In those days we were poor, and a C string was 40 bucks! Guess what she got for Xmas that year?

The Cards highly disappointed me because I predicted that they'd have another non-winning season. Would it have hurt if they had lost ONE more game? They were ALREADY in the playoffs!
I care little for football. Every game I have ever seen the Bflo Bills play, they've lost. Including those S*perBowls with Jim Kelly.
