When a bari sax is NOT a bassoon

I got a call from a desperate theater director asking me if I could play bassoon for HMS Pinafore. I've played bari sax for bassoon parts in the past but for shorter passages. But I don't play any double reeds. No way I going to do bari sax for the whole sixth reed book! Ugh.

I gave her four names. It will interesting to see if there is enough money in it for these guys.

If you can play double reeds well (something that I once could (for bassoon and English horn only)), you can pretty well write your own ticket in commercial circles. When you pick up sax and clarinet as well, the calls will come to you regardless.

When I put my mind to it and practice for a while (a week or so), I can get around pretty wll on the bassoon. But, those days of practice are agony while they are happening, and it's more pain that I care to endure. So, the bassoon sits in its box.

At least I got it fixed up and the crack repaired...
