I'm working on the reed 4 book for this show right now, and the bass clarinet parts are a bit snarky.

There's lots of bass to start with - and a low C horn is absolutely essential. The part runs all the way up to F three ledger lines above the staff at one point as well.

Typical braindead arranger stuff. Can't tell you how many charts I've found with low A for a tenor sax. I have rewritten stuff like that in the past and with no ill effect. But it really depends upon your director I suppose.

I recently ran across a low G in a baritone part. The arranger was acting as our piano player for the gig, and (incredibly) was not aware that there were only a few low G baritones in existence.

But, what are you going to do?

With any luck, I'll never have to play it again. The talent brought his own arrangements and pianist in from out of town, and it was a one shot deal.
