Gandalfe asked to turn on the RSS thingy. You can now click on the RSS icon in your browser if you want RSS.

The direct link is http://www.woodwindforum.com/forums/external.php.

If your browser (eg FireFox) supports it, you may see something like in the attachment.

By using RSS I'm able to see which blog has a new post with out going to every site. Here's what's in my RSS using Microsoft products. It saves me a lot of time as I only go to the bolded sites because it has new content.

A word of caution for web site owners: RSS isn't especially easy on your server; some clients poll the feed every couple of minutes which may significantly increase the traffic on your site. If you haven't got unlimited traffic, this may get expensive.

(I had RSS on my own site until some clown polled it every five seconds (made me feel important, yeah), and each time the server had to crawl through all the pages and spit out the condensate. Created a significant load both on CPU and network...)

my IE 6 SP2 must not be RSS capableI'll send you the link when I get home as it's not on my work computer. IE 6 has RSS the same as every IE version that I've used.

Good question. It loads faster, being just text. That's about it.

fwiw, the browser I use has an internal RSS reader that's really easy to use: Slimbrowser, from www.flashpeak.com (http://www.flashpeak.com).

With Slimbrowser, you can take the url that Pete posted above, change the "http:" to "rss:", and the RSS page comes up in the browser.
