Soupy was a cool guy and a great jazz lover. He would come to opening night whenever the Illinois Jacquet band started a run at the Tavern On The Green in NYC. Soupy would sit at the same table each time, right in front of me. It was a great feeling to look up and see Soupy sitting there.

People my age were very lucky to see him perform in his prime.
