Well, A=466 is a tad higher than even high pitch, which is A=457hz.

I did some brief Googling. A=466hz is a Renaissance standard. Also used on bagpipes.

... And we have another woodwind for the Exotica area: the Curtal (http://www.twingroves.district96.k12.il.us/RenAissance/Town/Music/Curtals.html). It's a double reed.

(Yah. We could have an entire section on Renaissance woodwinds. Yes, I can mention another Peter Schickele recording with Renaissance woodwinds: Bestiary. Out of print, everywhere. I have it on cassette.)

Bigger is better in my world. I used to play a couple contrabass recorders, and if I recall correctly the intonation was quite satisfactory for something of it's kind. I typically don't like recorders, but the contras were a blast. Good luck finding a nice one that plays in tune, though.
