a classic forum thread if there ever was one.
for the forseeable future I'll be into these specific corners.

*Music for consorts of Viols (Lawes, et al.)
*The FitzWilliam Virginal Book (Hogwood's my prefered)
*Vielles et Cornemuses of Central France ( this one- http://www.amazon.ca/Vielles-Et-Corn.../dp/B000024UAT) its a classic!!!
*Progressive Celtic Contemporary from the late 1980s/ early 1990''s (Capercaillie, Clannad, maybe Blowzabella, for ex....)
*Donovan's Sunshine Superman, Mellow Yellow & HurdyGurdy Man LP's (confessional complete )
*Select vintage solo recordings of Uilleann pipers (Clancy, Rowsome, McAloon, Ennis, for a start)

as the seasons change there will be some music of English Waites, Early Polyphony (yeah, ok I actually *do* enjoy listening to organum...once in a while...), maybe some Scandanavian folk, and/or Bjork...who knows!?!

    Dude. It's 81 degrees out.

(FWIW, I did spend about 20 years of my life in Virginia and New York, so I paid my dues.)

    The Piano Guys.

I started listening to them a couple years ago and promptly forgot about them until yesterday.

The videos are generally of a piano player and cellist, although there are quite a few guests and the music is sometimes mixed with other instruments. Their music is quite eclectic, but tends toward the pop end of the scale. Their videos are extremely high quality and generally quite amusing.

I spent about 45 minutes watching, last night. Recommended.

Yup, I was listening to and reposting their videos just yesterday. Good performance value.

    The Owls

The amusing thing is that I was listening to this on a playlist. There's another group called "Owls" that's an "experimental emo indie band." There's a rather significant difference in the two bands' style ....

This evening: SaxophoneEnsemble Mi-Bemol from Japan playing the 2nd movement from Dvorak's Symphony #9 ("From the New World"). It's not perfect, but the colors are very nice. (It's one of my favorite pieces, so I have biases.)

I am listening to Santa Fe and the Fat City Horns (Vegas ensemble) and they are so tight. That bari sax is sick! Lovin' it.

So I quickly zoomed in to have a close look at the sax to see if it was a Couesnon he was holding. Disappointed to see that it wasn't, as far as I could tell.

Then zoomed back out again only to see the front of the album "Demonstrating a Selmer Saxophone". Doh

    Still - great find!

He played with a wide vibrato at times. It was an interesting recording.

Tonight I'm enjoying Miles Davis - Kind of Blue

This is the reissue from about a decade ago on CD (actually listening to a FLAC rip of the CD). Not the most recent reissue which according to some has less noise but also doesn't sound as good. I see no reason to "upgrade" to the newer release.
