Another Selmer Series 9* clarinet

3 or so years ago I bought a used Selmer Series 9* clarinet from a pawn shop.
The instrument seems to had been repadded prior-to-sale and aside from a slightly-loose middle cork tenon, it is fine.
It came with a new case.
(When I demo'd it there was a no-name barrel and a new mpc that I didn't want, so I essentially bought the two body parts and bell.)
total cost: $350
I have been playing it a bunch lately and I'm starting to like it.

I check eBay/Marketplace from time to time just to see what's out there.....especially in October/November as people tend to sell-off things to gather some $ for the Holidays.
Lo and behold I started following an EBay listing for another 9*......looks like from another pawn shop in New Jersey.
The listing's buy-it-now price was $599.

I contacted the seller, the place sent me pictures; no-name mpc and barrel along with the three bottom parts (no cracks). The wood looked good.
I asked if I could make an offer and they sent me a message stating that $500.00 would be an acceptable offer.

I countered with: $400 for the bottom three parts - They could keep the "ratty" case, mpc, and non-matching barrel.
(I have a bunch of barrels.)

They accepted the offer and it was delivered yesterday.
It actually plays - the pads look really good - although the pad on the tone-hole closest to the bell had some moth damage.

I brought it to my tech today with instructions to put in in playing condition, not a total repad.

Oh well, another toy-in-the-box.

I can't tell you how many clarinets I've owned at one time in the past, but I recall I sold a bunch off at one time. No reason to have several dozen when you don't play 'em (including my Selmers.)

Series 9* are very nice clarinets. You'll enjoy them.

You need a clarinet for practice, another one for playing outside, one for symphonic playing, one for solo work, another for playing jazz ...

Yup. If you need excuses, come to me :D.
