Classical literature - The top 5

I started a similar thread in the flute section. I'd like to know what are the top 5 clarinet pieces. The pieces every clarinetist knows. Feel free to list more or less.

Off the top of my head? Mmmmm.

Ralph Vaughn Williams, Folk Song Suite, "My Bonny Boy".

That's not traditionally "clarinet", though, but I do know it by heart ....

I think one of the top answers is probably, The Mozart Clarinet Concerto.

My clarinet education, even though that was the instrument I started on, was very ... different and I never really played these "great" solo works. I worked more on ensemble stuff. I can say that I'm EXTREMELY fond of Peter Schickele's clarinet and piano pieces, such as Elegies. Very fun to play, very nice music.

My clarinet teacher told me there are 3 pieces every clarinetist should master before they retire their instrument.

Stranger on the Shore, Clarinet Polka, and Mozarts Clarinet Concerto on both Bb and A clarinets. I have all 3 and have yet to master 2.

I can't retire my clarinet yet! :-D

Merlin,
I have Concertino with a piano accomp CD. I've never played it.
Would it be good for me to attemp it at my advanced age?

Top 5 "easy" pieces. These still aren't exactly beginner pieces, but probably within the technical abilities of a motivated high school clarinetist.

Hindemith Sonata
Finzi Five Bagatelles
Rabaud Solo de Concours
Weber Concertino
Vaughan Williams Six Studies in English Folksong

Sorry Merlin,
I didn't relalise that I was the Granny of the group.

I'll take it with me to Band Camp and work on it during my down time.

Granny? Hardly. You're a lot younger than my ex-wife.

Though since I've got mod powers I could probably change your name to WoodwindGranny if you asked nicely.

Oh you have an evil sence of humour.

I'll think about the name change AFTER I become a Granny.

Or custom title ....

Custom title Pete? You're an evil one too.

If, and only IF, you can prove that I am in fact the oldest female member will I accept the title of 'WoodwindGranny'.

Otherwise you are all evil little men. :p

I'm sure there was a valid reason.

Most women don't like it when a man looks better in her clothes than she does.

If any of you guys are smaller than a size 8....... I'd better start dropping a few lbs.
