C'mon now, you know that you have. While most of my upbringing was pretty normal, one element was way off the charts: I grew up learning to play clarinet on an Albert system bass in A with manual register keys.
You can't have the A bass clarinet, but you can get the essence of it all, for there are no less than three bass clarinets with manual register keys currently up for sale on eBay. And, if you are really adventurous, one of them is an Albert system horn.
You won't get the full treatment (I learned to play by transposing from Bb on an A horn from the very start), but you'll get an inkling. Go nuts!
