Himie Voxman, who studied to be a scientist but instead became renowned for his clarinetist’s contributions to music education, pedagogy and wind instrument repertoire, has died.

Voxman, who enjoyed a long career at the University of Iowa as a student then a full-time faculty member before achieving professor emeritus status, died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011. He was 99.

Names like Himie's and the wonderfully monikered Nilo Harvey will live on long after their time on the planet. Can't think of a better memorial for either of them than method books that will be used for the next sixty years.

Yes, fond memories...I still play from that book from time to time...
