Nah, he was an upright player that just took up the electric for sessions--he played some great lines though.

There's a lot of folks out there that contend that many of the motown hits were recorded in LA, not Detroit, and that a lot of Jamerson's tracks were overdubbed by LA session musicians, especially as his 'habits' kicked in, and his work quality became less.

Most folks credit Monk Montgomery, Wes's brother, with bringing the electric bass into the mainstream, when he toured with Lionel Hampton in the early fifties.
