Apparently Moennig (until the 80s) and Chadash made/make their own barrels. Buffet also made their (Moennig & Chadash) barrels as a regular optional accessory from the factory.

Did Chadash make each barrel? I think Buffet made them per his specs for distribution. There was documentation on some website that supported that Moennig barrels were the same deal. If you wanted the "real" Moennig barrel you would visit his Philadelphia shop , otherwise buy one of the Buffet speced Moennig barrel. Chadash I would think would be the same thing.

All 3 barrels have different designed bores, thus serve a different purpose. The Moennig has a larger top bore than the Chadash, and both have the same bottom bore -- aka Reverse Tapered Bores. the Reverse Tapered bores improves tuning and focuses the tone. versus the R13 which doesn't have this.

BUT apparently the "shop" moennig had a deeper top socket which further increased the bore volume. But apparently the original barrel is supposed to give more of a "ringing" tone.

There certainly are a lot of followers of Moenning and Chadash barrels (and Backun, etc) and users of the stock barrels. So I would think it all depends upon what you are after.
