A background, dinner music gig can be very rewarding if you are physically comfortable and you like the sound on your little "stage". It's a paid improv session. You have to give yourself specific things to work on, and a structure for the sets. Then, regardless if anyone notices you, you feel like you got something done. Just putting in the time for the money is a waste.
