Buffet B10 (plastic) vs Prestini USA (wood)

Greetings to everyone.

I want to start in the clarinet, and i've been seeing some options and talking to people.

A teacher is selling me a Prestini clarinet made of wood. He says that since it's of wood it's really good, but i talked to a really good luthier and he said to me that Prestini clarinets are ****ty.

And other guy is selling me a Buffet B10 made of plastic. I searched about this clarinet in the internet and everybody talks really good about it, except in this forum.

So, what's better, a known brand plastic clarinet or a questionable wooden clarinet?

Oh, and by the way, the buffet b10 costs like 2-3 times more than the prestini, but it's used (in well state though) and it's being offered to me at the same price as the prestini.

Just because a clarinet is made of wood (or plastic, or any material) doesn't mean it is good (or bad). There are very good and also terrible wood clarinets.

The Buffet B10 is ok and can be just fine.

I haven't seen the Prestini so have no idea how good (or bad) it is.

The opinion of the person selling the instrument is assumed to be less objective than that of someone else. Some people can be very objective even about something they sell, but you can't really know that. The claim that is better because it is made of wood is a little silly...

Actually, I think we've been pretty positive on the subject of plastic clarinets. I can say that the B10 is the rock-bottom Buffet, it's in European orchestral pitch (A=442hz) and it's not made by Buffet. A B12 is considerably nicer, according to every report I've ever seen.

Another way of looking at it, you've had someone else tell you respected enough to post that the Prestini is "****ty" (regardless of the fact that a "Luthier" isn't a clarinet specialist). Why, then, would you want to buy one?

Finally, remember that we recommend different clarinets than either of your choices. If you're just giving me a choice between the B10 and the Prestini, it's like asking if I want a poke in the eye with a sharp stick or a needle. In both cases, someone loses an eye.
