You can read about the Taragato I've recently purchased here, http://biskey7.wordpress.com/2008/0...ató-sounds-like-a-cat-being-strangled-slowly/. I'm currently using a sopranino sax mouthpiece and a number two clarinet reed to great effect.

Click on the picture in the blog post and you get a bigger picture. I need to remember to take the same shot (with keyworks featured) of the tárogató next to a soprano sax.

Here's a straight octavin next to a tárogató.

I've been away for awhile...in India for business. I will have to take some time later tonight to post some photos...I've never heard of an Octavin before...always thought that what I had was a Taragato...interesting...

From Gandalfe's blog: "Tárogató (aka tárogató), sounds like a cat... being strangled... slowly..."

How do you know this Gandalfe? Is the cat that lives with my Buescherbass still alive???

Looked for a Youtube clip to hear a tárogató. Found one here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sj9wYhHrpJM

- features a fight between a cat and a big dog (dog wins).

You'll be happy to know that Thelonious aka Theo is fine. He now has a Bengal sister Macy (Green).

Taragato

Okay...here are some photos...

The question about why I thought is was in the Key of 'C'...because it is stamped 'C' on both the upper and lower barrels.

This is what it says in an oval...

'Adler & Co.'

'C'

Actually, the letter 'C' is below the oval...

WWF Contributor 'Groovekiller' (Randy Emrick) is from Dayton Ohio as I am also, and he probably knew the guy who I bought this from...not sure if he is watching this thread or not...

Museum

You should post a question to the instrument museum in Markneukirchen! They could help you to identify the instrument best.
