It appears designed for the German/Austrian string ligature, hence the ribs...

That's kinda what I thought, too. I've just never seen a mouthpiece like that.

This seller is crazy, asking $750. I've never paid more than $100 for a Stowasser mouthpiece. Yes, this is for string. Most are smooth for a metal log. I've got an original Stowasser cap carved out of rosewood :)

The stamp looks more like the fake here http://11thmuse.com/fake.html than a real one
and it doesn't have the triangle stamp they usually have.

No--it's real. This was one of the styles. I have seen a number of them like this, and it came from Ioan Scaunas, who is a world authority on Stowasser and has the largest collection of them anywhere. But $750 is completely outrageous. Ioan makes great mpcs for $300 and I have bought 3 Original Stowasser mpcs for a hundred bucks each.

It's $250, not $750. However, it is nice to know a range for pricing info.

Ah, he dropped the price. It had been on eBay for at least 6 months at 750.
