"I made this clarinet out of gum paste, it is actually the size of a real clarinet! The case is the cake covered with fondant and painted with food coloring. The music notes are my shortbread cookies. I printed the music on icing sheets with edible ink. The whole thing is edible!" ~ Mary Kn Sweetcake

Back in my childhood, before most of you were born, the hipper folks I knew called a clarinet a 'licorice stick' (and they still may, although I, apparently, no longer know any hipsters.) – Do you suppose the cake could possess some sort of hidden historical sub-text?
