Vibrato

I was listening to some nice recorder work and was wondering if you could create a vibrato. I've tried using volume and false fingerings to get a kind of mock vibrato. Truth be know though, it just more of a trill. Any come up with a better way to create some kind of vibrato sound on a recorder?

I use breath vibrato on recorder. I use a similar technique to that I use when playing flute--I'm not sure I can really isolate exactly what I do, it's easier to do than to explain, but I guess it's a combination of diaphragm and throat? It warms the sound considerably.

But I'm not a real recorder or flute player.

Hmmm. I always thought that using the diaphragm to produce vibrato was a bad thing. However, that's for clarinet and sax, so YMMV on recorder .

Diaphragm vibrato on recorder is the standard, just as it is on flute.

Diaphragm vibrato - think of saying "ha ha ha" (I know, real funny), that's the quick and simple explanation. Make sure nothing tenses up, don't tense your throat or hurt yourself, let it come naturally. Don't cough it out.
