Sure. but it didn't show new posts. Seems to be back up again though.
I'm not sure what exactly is back up again, but searching on LampLight still only brings back about 1 per cent of my posts and nothing newer than last December. :-(

Is it just me, or is the site a bit less active than before the overhaul?
Nope, I've noticed that too and wondered if the forum link that opens to a non-forum page is confusing some people. It will probably pick up once everyone gets used to the new vBulletin 4.0 changes.
You missed "has anybody ever tried a tenor reed on an alto?" (and various other combos)
and "which mouthpiece should I use for marching band?"
These forums are invaluable tools for beginners, newbies, late (supposedly) bloomers. Even if these questions are naive, they come from fellow saxists who deserve being helped in their struggle for survival, in a synth-, sequencer-, sampler-oriented musical world.

... Anyway, If I strip off the finish of my sax, will it make the tone brighter or darker?
no no No NO it depends on the color of the lining of the case.It depends on whether you're playing in bright light or in a dark room where no one can see the finish.
Point taken. That is bad, but if new post don't show up or your subscriptions are lost then it seems better to me to shut the whole thing down until fixed.I'm not sure what exactly is back up again, but searching on LampLight still only brings back about 1 per cent of my posts and nothing newer than last December. :-(

I guess I didn't do a very good job of getting my point across. I wasn't questioning Harri at all. Poor guy, this must be a nightmare. My comment was exclusively referring to the day where new posts didn't show up at all. That was remedied quickly. However, if it hadn't been, I would have thought that it best to take it down, because the site at that time effectively was frozen.I am somewhat deferential to Harri on this because only he has his full perspective.
Does anybody remember the first SOTW?
When they moved to the last version, as far as I know, everything was lost .
Was it the late 90's or early in this century?

Contrary to popular belief, software doesn't self-destruct or otherwise deteriorate upon the release of a new version. Unless its execution is dependent somehow on external components retrieved at runtime, the old php/sql code should still work and you should be able to go back. Can't go back to old version. They stop supporting the old versions...
...Shows nary a wrinkle, doesn't limp, and has all its teeth.
On the intro page, under the SOTW logo, the "Forum" button in highlighted, so it seems reasonable to assume you are on the forum. Wrong! Click on the forum button to actually go to the forum. Also, you'll probably need to log on again.i've been getting lost trying to get to the forum ....
anyone have a direct link ?
I started checking it out in the fall of 2000, just reading not posting. It was red and blue on white back then, you didn't have to register to post, and it was really wild, to say the least.
