I'm fairly sure it's a saxophone.

OK, I'll be more specific. I think this horn is closest to an Ida Maria Grassi. I'd love to say this is a Santoni stencil, but I don't have any Santoni pics that look close enough. Grassi has the same left pinky cluster and bell-to-body brace, though. You might want to check for a "Made in" stamp, which could be under a key touchpiece.

I'd recommend trying to track down milandro on Sax-on-the-Web. He knows a lot more about Italian saxophones than I do.
