How many decimal points do you want? ;-)

How do they know for a fact that they are the only bass saxophone quartet in the universe? This reminds me of Gagarin. At least if he had come down saying there is no bass saxophone quartet in the universe...
Just consider it shorthand for "Very very probably (to a statistical almost-certainty) the first bass saxophone quartet in the observable universe" ;)

I believe one of the Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy books mentions that if the universe is so extremely vast that it's almost infinite, then the fact that there's any life at all is close to the statistical margin of error, thus no life exists.

This is brilliant. This establishes the origin of the big bang. In the beginning there was the bass saxophone...

BTW, I still want to buy Gandalfe's Buescher, except there are some really major logistical problems involved, not to mention the deal-breaker about whether the cat is included. However, more clear than ever, owning a bass saxophone is an existential issue.
