The pyhysics of the flute make what you describe impossible from an acoustic standpoint. The only thing a Foster extension might conceivably do would be to make the bottom note or two slightly different. Above that there is what is called an "tone hole lattice", in which almost all the sound produced by the instrument is projected from the open tone holes. Very little sound reaches the end of the flute if there are a couple of tone holes open above it, and then it only passes the highest frequencies. There is a reason that something similar to the Foster extension is not seen in use by professional players, which is because it really doesn't do anything at all, in reality.Thank you, Gandalfe. That site is a good resource. I have been there before.
That site describes the Foster Extension, but does not list any for sale. It does have a list of flute websites. I will see if any of those have a forum.
Unfortunately, the Foster Extension is no longer manufactured. So the only ones for sale are used ones.
I can attest to its effectiveness. My flute coach has one, and I have convinced her to remove it when playing in a small room. It makes the flute loud enough to hurt my ears.
