Guy brought an alto into the shop today for a repad and had no idea about it.

Named Esquire
serial 19 over 4XX
Brass keys on lacquered brass body
rolled tone holes
switchable articulated G# and G# trill key
stamped Made in Holland under the RH key mechanisms.
Came in a very nice tweed case with the label/plaque of the store it probably originally was sold from riveted on by the case handle.

Very strong resemblance to the tenor Schenkelaar on Helen's site.

He thought the mouthpiece was a piece of garbage until I pointed out the very nice and narrow rails, the very fine tip, very large chamber and link style ligature.

I think he got a steal for $99.

I'll try to grab some pictures later.

Actually, I was reading some very interesting information about Schenkelaars in Uwe Ladwig's book just the other day. I had no idea how much the other Keilwerth brother--Joseph, the one no one ever talks about--was involved with the company. That's why the horns resemble the JK horns so much.

It was actually Schenkelaars that had the massive order of baritones for Africa that they couldn't fill, which is how B&S and JK ended up working together on the baritone project. End result: B&S baritones improved afterwards because of the transfer of knowledge that occurred when the 2 companies worked together.
