I make one of these whenever the band I play with perform at a school. The kids love it. I did a duet with a garden hose French Horn at one job. I find I can get suitable carrots at a local animal feedstock merchant, the local grocery stores tend to filter out the large carrots, but horses love them. Tried a zucchini clarinet, but it didn't work very well as the inside of a zucchini isn't very firm.
